RLRR has a permanent shelter located on the western boundary of the reservation 18 miles from the nearest town.

The shelter has 22 outdoor kennels for dogs and an indoor facility for cats and very young puppies.

Each kennel has a outdoor run and an enclosed sheltered area, both filled with straw for bedding and to help keep the animals warm in the bitterly cold winters of northern Minnesota.

After a stay at the shelter, all of the animals are transported to rescues and shelters in Minnesota for fostering and adoption.
